What do we do on our camping weekends?
Typically, we arrive on Thursday or Friday afternoon. The Wagon Master for the weekend may plan activities of his or her own choice. Sometimes we go out to a restaurant for Friday dinner. Saturday is pretty much free time to do whatever you like. You may want to take a leisurely walk or bike ride, visit a historical site, go shopping or participate in an activity planned by the Wagon Master. Sometimes we enjoy a "hobo breakfast" (like a pot lunch), or a special lunch prepared by one of our members. We may have a short chapter meeting sometime during the day, usually before or after a pot luck dinner on Saturday evening. In the evening, we may meet around a campfire or play a friendly game like dominoes, a card or board game. We may get together Sunday morning for a continental breakfast before we say goodbye until our next campout.
Either in the Spring and Fall (May or September), the Virginia Good Sam state organization hosts a Samboree. The Samboree is a gathering of Good Sam members and guests from many chapters in the state, as well as Good Sam visitors from other states. The weekend is full of activities to keep everyone as busy as they want to be, with plenty of time to socialize and meet new camping friends.
